I am very confused by the Queen. She has left Edward and fled to France, but at the same time, at every mention of King Edward, she immediately asks how he is and requests that he is told that she still loves and cares for him.
"Whither goes this letter?
To my lord the King?
Commend me humbly to His Majesty,
And tell him that I labor all in vain
To ease his grief and work his liberty;
And bear him this as witness of my love" (Act V, i, 68-72).
But at the same time she is going along with Mortimer's plan against Edward.
"Use Edmund friendly, as if all were well" (Act V, ii, 79).
Here she is telling Mortimer to pretend everything is fine with Kent, so that they can sqeeze information out of him and use anything agains him in his favor. Her actions and her words are not following the same pattern, which makes her irritating.
